Le problème, c’est à la fois comment ils vous voient mais aussi comment vous vous voyez. Huis clos (1944) - Jean Paul Sartre

In fact, it's the others. That's a quote from Sartre. We know it a lot, but we also have a lot to understand. Already, there's not a book, but a piece of theater called "Lui Clos". And we could believe that Sartre says, "The others are unsupportable." Human relationships are a quote from Sartre, but that's not it. In "Lui Clos", there is no flame. There is no torture, there is no sorrow. There are only the others. Their presence, their gaze, and above all, their judgment. For Sartre, the real problem begins here. When you are alone, you are subject, you are agitated, you are chosen, you are becoming, but since another one looks at you, you become an object in his world. You are seen, interpreted, reduced an image. And this image, well, you are able to escape. The other can trigger you in what you have been, in a fault, in a role, in a label. Even if this image is false, it exists. And you can't suppress it. That's what we do to others, that's what we do to Sartre. Being condemned to see through the others, the more we can redefine our freedom to be locked into a version of oneself that we have not chosen. But attention, Sartre only accuses the others. He shows an interesting tension. We want to be free, but we also want to be recognized, loved, valid, and this recognition does not pass through other things, so we depend on something that can be closed to us and often, we go to ourselves to do this. We seek peace, to correspond to an image, to be what we expect from us, Sartre calls this bad times. This figet is the same, to avoid the anguish of freedom. In fact, it's not simply the others, it's the moment when the look defines who you are at your place. And this sentence is really relevant today, because we have never been seen, judged, edited, an image, a post, a sentence released on context, and sometimes all decided. Sartre leaves us with a situation that is a little difficult, how to live with others, without let it be closed by their gaze and without looking, to be closed to our surroundings. Because in reality, the closing begins when no one is able to come up with something else, because we have decided to see.
