I'm gonna say something crazy, striving for a promotion or a higher title is the leaf-safe career move that you can make right now. Millennials and Gen Z's no longer see vertical career moves as growth. Oh yeah, in case you're wondering I'm making a nice matcha. This is just how I stay sane. Cost of living, burnout, work expectations. All of that is going up, but pay isn't. Sadly, this isn't news. In fact, only 6% of Gen Z's say they want to move up the corporate ladder and become leaders. There is a shift in what success actually means in one's career, and it's no longer vertical career moves. It is now horizontal ones. I think we're gonna go with lavender syrup because we're wearing purple. I got a lot of trajectory. What the heck does a horizontal career move even mean? It means staying in the same position or role, but changing industries because they have better pay bans. Same skills, new company. I've done several vertical and horizontal career moves, and vertical career moves are great if you're looking for status and a little bit of a bump. What really vertical career moves now mean is more responsibility and less pay. I said it. Vertical career moves reward obedience, but horizontal career moves reward agency. I forgot to reiterate this. I actually believe we are in the early stages of seeing companies valuing horizontal moves more than vertical. They're gonna see that you have boldness. You have tenacity agency be the catalyst for these companies and their success. So instead of chasing promotions, you should be chasing more optionality. So success is now seen as transferable skills, but with diversified experiences. My best one yet.
