It’s almost autism awareness month… yay #actuallyautistic

Autism Awareness Month is quickly approaching, and every year I feel like the month is filled with stupid discourse, so I thought I would try to get ahead of all the BS before the month even starts. First of all, if you are a white, low-sport needs autistic person, like myself, sit your butt down. We dominate the social media narrative when it comes to autism. We don't need to be so loud and proud during the month. We should be sitting down and shutting up so that other people who don't get heard, the rest of the year, can be heard. The things that should be getting the spotlight during Autism Awareness Month are high-sport needs autistic people and they're different ways of communication, and the ways that their rights are constantly being threatened, and the ways that they don't have equal rights. We should be highlighting intersecting identities the way that race and gender play a role in the autistic experience. We should be talking about and pushing for change surrounding all of the barriers that autistic people and caregivers to autistic people face when they're trying to get diagnoses or services or any type of support. There are so many systemic barriers that autistic people face when it comes to education, being in public or being in the job force. We should be really highlighting those so that things get better. Autism Awareness Month is about pushing for positive change that would benefit all autistic people. If you are not including all autistic people in your advocacy, then you are not an autism advocate.
