To a friend who came a little later in life, thank God you did, because even though we didn't get to be kids together, we got to grow up together, and exactly the way we needed to at the time. To the friend who became my person when I was already a whole person, I'd already been shaped and shattered and rebuilt again and again, and you loved the little imperfections that were left behind. And we've even stepped into reinforcing is a broke before I met you. I may not have been a part of the story of your foundation, but it's one of my favorite stories to hear, and I love the way we laugh about all that has happened, and then we take on all the things that keep happening, and match our pieces up like a puzzle we both carried half of for a long time. I love that we chose each other for who we became without each other. It makes everything that has ever happened to me feel worth it. We'll never get to know each other before, but somehow I feel like I've never not known you, and I can't imagine a time without you, but now I don't have to. You came around later, but you came at the perfect time, and I think it worked out just the way it was meant to, because the grown-up version of me needed you more than you will ever know.
