what is this phenomenon called?

I don't hang out with people if I don't like them. But it's turning out that a lot of people hang out with you when they don't even like you. And in fact, they will hit you up and be insistent on seeing you and hanging out with you when they don't like you. Do you know how scary that is? You think it's a normal concept given that I don't like to waste my time in energy on people I don't actually like, but people will continue to humble me and surprise me.
