This country wiped out 80% of an entire population and denied it for 117 years. It's 1884, Namibia. German settlers arrive, claim the land as their own. They seize farms, force labor. The Herrero people watch their world vanish. For 20 years they endure it in silence. Then in January 1904 they strike back. Settlement after settlement falls overnight. They kill soldiers but let the women go. Supplies recovered, land reclaimed. For the first time the colonizers run. And for a while Berlin lets them celebrate. Then Germany sends its most ruthless general. His mission is not peace. It's annihilation. He marches his army toward the Herrero people. But they escape into the desert. So he poisons the water wells. Tens of thousands die of thirst in the sand. Those still alive are thrown into concentration camps. Medical experiments. Mass death. 80% of the Herrero people gone. And for 117 years Germany says nothing. No apology. No recognition. Until 2021, when they finally call it what it was. Genocide.
