Science shows that you need to destroy your ego if you want to be successful. And I'll tell you the neuroscience behind why because your ego blocks you from the exact behaviors that create success. Success requires failing, being judged, looking cringe, being a meme, and all of those things threaten your identity or ego. And your brain is wired to protect your identity at all costs. So when your goals require you do things that threaten your ego like practicing imperfection and risking judgment, your brain actually registers that as a threat. It activates the same systems involved in beer and survival mode. So instead of growth, you stay stuck. This is why your ego will keep you in the familiar pain rather than the unknown growth. When I first started making content, I had people calling offering to give me advice because it was that obvious that I needed it. But look at where we are now. I wouldn't be where I am if I didn't once look dumb. And some people probably even think that I still look dumb or cringe. But every time you avoid something out of fear of how you may be perceived, you are choosing comfort over your own potential. Your ego protects your identity, but your success requires that you outgrow it. I just held a ceremony for the past version of me. And when you stop trying to look a certain way, you become more authentic and more magnetic. The same brain states that allow you to get into flow are the ones that happen when your ego dissolves. If you're too afraid to be seen failing, you won't be seen succeeding either.
