This is a death note. Even rainwater steers clear of it. A boy stumbles upon this strange notebook, and when he gets home and casually writes someone's name in it, a prisoner dies instantly from a heart attack. Kira also discovers there's a Shinagami living inside the notebook, but before long, he's basically keeping the death god as a pet. To stay off the police's radar, Kira makes it a habit to leave a pencil lead wedged in his door hinge whenever he goes out. But one day when he comes home, he finds the lead snapped in two. That's when it hits him. He's officially a suspect. So Kira plays it cool. He sits down at his desk pretending to do homework while the Shinagami, visible only to him. He keeps trying to strike up a conversation. Kira acts like he can't hear a thing, because the second he acknowledges the death god, the cops watching through surveillance will know for sure he's the one with the death note. Even after weeks of round the clock monitoring, the detective team analyzes Kira's every tiny move, but still can't find a single slip up, just as the police are about to call off the operation. The smartest detective figures it out. Kira must be the owner of the death note. Why? Because during their entire surveillance period, not a single mysterious death occurred. That alone proves Kira's the suspect. Since under their watch, he had absolutely no opportunity to kill. But just as the detective squad is gearing up to make the arrest, news breaks of another bizarre heart attack death, exactly like the previous cases. Everyone's eyes immediately dart to the live surveillance feed, where Kira is casually munching on potato chips. This perfectly clears him up suspicion. The frustrated detectives are forced to consider that the killer might be someone else entirely. What they never could have imagined is that Kira had hidden a tiny portable player, and a small piece of paper torn from the death note inside the chip bag. His plan is so ingenious, even the Shinagami can't help but be impressed. With that, the police have no choice but to temporarily clear Kira as a suspect. So, if you were the owner of the death note, how would you dodge the detectives' surveillance? Follow me to catch the next thrilling part of this film.
