These six US states are now at risk for hauntavirus. New Jersey, Texas, Georgia, Arizona, California, and Virginia. Two people in New Jersey may have just contracted hauntavirus, and what's even more alarming is that they were never on the cruise ship. Instead, they were reportedly on a flight with a passenger from the M.V. Honduras. The same ship where the outbreak began, which means this virus may have already spread through air travel. So far, nine people across the US are being monitored, one in California, two in Georgia, two in Texas, one in Virginia, one in Arizona, and now two in New Jersey. Worldwide, there are six suspected cases, seven confirmed cases, and three reported deaths. Most hauntaviruses do not spread between humans and usually come from contact with infected rodents. But the strain linked to this outbreak is believed to resemble the Andy's virus, one of the only known hauntavirus strains capable of spreading from person to person, although it remains extremely rare. Symptoms can begin like a flu, fever, fatigue, muscle aches, and coughing.
