Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. I'm not writing the elevator. The elevator dropped down when I stepped in it. Tasha's greatest fear isn't the pain. Stepping into an elevator, every time the doors close, a vision flashes through her mind. The elevator collapsing. Her trapped inside under the weight. She knows with her size. This isn't a fantasy. It's the reality she worries about every single day. Tasha's obesity didn't happen overnight. At 21, she met her ex-husband. Everything seemed perfect at first, but soon after marriage, the abuse began. He was physically violent, but she didn't leave. Instead, she had two daughters with him. She thought enduring it would bring safety, until one day she finally broke, and escaped with her children. But leaving didn't make the fear vanish. To avoid thinking about it, she turned to binge eating. Food numbed her briefly, but it never healed the pain. At first she could still work, and support herself and her kids, but as her weight kept rising, she lost her job, and the ability to live independently. Even daily tasks required help from her daughters. She began to realize obesity wasn't just trapping her. It was burdening her children too, making them take on responsibilities that weren't theirs to bear. After countless nights of painful struggle, Tasha finally decided to seek help at a hospital, but just stepping out of the car. She almost fell. Her legs barely had any sensation. Luckily a nurse was there in time, pushed a wheelchair to catch her. Even so, the experience left her shaken. Then she found out, her ward was on the third floor, in that moment hope almost completely collapsed. How could she barely able to stand? Take the first step toward change? Tasha finally break free. From the prison of her body and her fears, her story is only just beginning.
