One is a time to walk away from a friend. This is lesson number 17. Some friends are here for just one chapter of your life, while others are here for the whole book. Knowing the difference saves you time, energy, and peace. Surround yourself with friends who inspire you, challenge you, and bring out the best in you. But when someone drains your energy, brings you down or limits your growth, that is your sign to walk away. After all, the company you keep determines the trouble you meet. I had a best friend of five years who were roommates too, same guy from the lesson on revenge. At some point, it got strangely competitive from his side, and if I shared a goal, he would knock it down. For far too long, I gave excuses for the ways he put me down. He didn't need it that way. In the end, enough was enough. I moved out, cut off all ties, and to my surprise, my life completely changed. All that time, worrying about our friendship went into my own dreams. That's when you truly understood that you are the average of the closest five people around you. Don't get me wrong, walking away is hard, but losing yourself is harder. This is 30 lessons by 30, and the next lessons tomorrow, so follow for more.
