There is one specific thing I will never clean, even if someone offers me double the price. Last week a young man showed up proudly with a beautiful saloon he had just bought secondhand. He was convinced he had made the deal of his life. The black leather interior looked almost clinically clean at first glance. Everything was excessively shiny. He handed me the keys and said the car was perfect, but he just wanted a light seat clean. According to him, the previous owner had simply over-conditioned the leather, making it slightly greasy. That's the moment I became suspicious. I stepped closer and took a look inside, and instantly something fell off. The smell didn't match. It didn't smell like leather or any normal cleaning product. It was a heavy chemical scent. I leaned over the driver's seat and looked closely at the stitching. On this model, the threads are usually light gray. Here, they were completely black, as if they had been dipped in something. I asked him to wait a moment, then I took a brand new white microfiber cloth. I added just a drop of water, and gently wiped the back of the headrest. When I looked at the cloth, it was completely black, but not from dirt. It was black like ink. I stepped out of the car immediately, handed him back the keys, and told him straight, "I'm not touching your interior." He got angry instantly, said it was my job to scrub, and that it was just built up dirt. He'd even added that he would pay any extra cost. I stopped him, held the cloth up in front of him, and said calmly, "That's not dirt." That's paint. He froze. I explained that he had most likely been scanned. The previous owner had simply painted over a completely ruined leather. And in that moment, he went completely silent.
