Most people don’t like uncertainty. However, it is something we do need to tolerate on a day-to-day basis. The problem with most anxiety, is it’s maintained through avoidance. We feel anxious, we don’t do the thing, and we feel momentary relief as a result. But, this doesn’t allow us the opportunity to face what makes us anxious, and learn that it may not be as bad as we thought. Anxiety catastrophizes by nature, that’s its job. But with this, many of the situations we’re most anxious about aren’t as bad as we make them out to be. While there are often other underlying reasons for anxiety (e.g., growing up in unsafe environments) that can benefit from deeper emotional work, growing our tolerance to uncertainty through reducing safety behaviours like reassurance seeking can help us begin to recognize that we can be uncomfortable, and still be ok. #psychologist #anxietytools #anxietyhelp #therapytiktok #anxietyrelief
