Imagine just suddenly never being able to stop laughing. In 2009, a man from the Netherlands named Hugh Bosset underwent a surgery to have his hip replaced. However, although the surgery was success, when Hugh returned home afterward, he quickly discovered that all of a sudden, he just couldn't stop laughing. No matter the context and no matter how hard he tried not to laugh, every time he opened his mouth to say something, he would just immediately fall into this fit of uncontrollable giggles. Turns out since he had been placed under anesthetics during his operation, they had somehow caused him to develop something called pseudo-bulber effect. A condition that caused his excessive emotional outbursts. And although at first, Hugh's family members found the fact that he'd laughed at the time kind of funny, over time they very quickly started to become extremely annoyed by it. They became really frustrated by the fact that every time they tried to have a series conversation with Hugh, he still just wouldn't stop laughing, so they eventually stopped visiting him. And since Hugh's wife lived with him and had to listen to his laughs all day long for years, she soon fell out of love with him. Despite these developments, though, Hugh just still couldn't stop laughing about them. Literally, the only time when he's not laughing is when he's listening to the Dutch National Anthem, which without fail makes him cry. Hugh never stopped laughing until the day he died in 2016.
