I have never heard an attorney scream at a witness like a prosecutor screamed at the son of a former South Carolina gas station owner charged with murdering a teenage shoplifting suspect who had a gun. Dale Scott, a senior assistant solicitor in South Carolina's 5th Circuit, ended his cross-exam of Andy Wong on Friday (May 29) by confirming that the shooting wouldn't have happened if Chow and his father, Rick Chow, had stayed in their store instead of running after 14-year-old Cyrus Carmack-Belton on May 28, 2023, after accusing him of shoplifting water, which he hadn't done. Andy Wong testified the boy pointed a gun at him before his father shot him. Police found a loaded 9 mm on him, and he'd posted a photo of himself with it on Instagram a day earlier. Defense attorney Shaun Kent followed up in re-direct by asking Wong, "It doesn't happen if Cyrus doesn't pull a gun on you either, correct?" "Correct," Chow answered. That's when Scott screamed, "You don't even know there's a gun if you stay in the gas station! Right?" "You don't know he's got a gun if you stay put in the Shell gas station, correct?" he asked. "Yes, sir," Chow answered. "I'm correct?" Scott asked. "Yes, sir," Chow answered. You can watch all testimony on my YouTube channel. Closing arguments are Monday (June 1). #law #crime #court
