I'm trying to find the right words to articulate how today's state of play made me feel where I thought that the presentation was good like above average and there were exciting announcements in it, but at the same time I felt this like lingering lukewarm feeling after it was done. And I think it boils down to a general knowledge gap for me of what exactly is a Sony game or a Sony exclusive game and that unpredictability I think is a detriment to state of play as a product. So take something like the Switch 2, right? When a new Nintendo console comes out, I think we can all generally predict what games to expect depending on what part of the life cycle of the console we are at. So when the Switch 2 came out, we expected games like a new Mario platformer, a Mario Kart, Mario sports games, probably a heavy hitter Pokemon game to be announced very shortly after. And then we can expect the lesser popular titles or IP to be announced like a new Yoshi game, a new Star Fox game, maybe a Metroid game, maybe a Fire Emblem game. This is why Nintendo Directs are so exciting because they get placed within the calendar year that we can predict certain announcements to come based on where we are at with the console. I've had the PlayStation 5 since it first came out which I think was in 2020 and I don't know where we are at in the life cycle of this console like I don't know what games are to be expected at this point and whether we should be really anticipating anything at all. So I think state of play becomes this field where we either get wildly delusional with our predictions or we don't expect really anything to show up at all. And the fact that a lot of series has gone non-exclusive to Sony doesn't help this at all either, right? So I think a lot of us didn't expect Final Fantasy to show up here because they've obviously pushed for much more cross-platform in the past year with the rebirth titles. We can't even expect series like Ratchet and Kling which I really think it's like a PlayStation series to even show up here anymore because that is also on PC now, it's not Sony exclusive. So I'm kind of just left wondering like I don't know what the hell to expect at these presentations anymore and I was excited for certain announcements like until Dawn 2, Silent Hill and Onimusha but I'm also thinking like a lot of these titles are confirmed to be on Steam or they're gonna probably end up on Steam like until Dawn 2. And then I'm also thinking like this is the reason why Onimusha showed up here and we're probably going to get something Resident Evil related at Summer Games Fest because they just wanted to separate the two titles a bit from each other. So I'm left kind of feeling what the hell is state of play and also just feeling like the whole presentation is extremely fragmented while also being a little let down because they marketed the shit out of this one.
