The delusion
@thejauntTranscript
Everyone is born with this delusion that they're bound to be a star, and 90% of people grow out of it, gradually between elementary school and high school, just slowly realizing that they're probably not gonna be a professional sports player, slash entrepreneurial, billionaire slash, special forces operator all in one, and that they should probably recalculate their expectations out of life so as to avoid disappointment and getting laughed at at the room by their increasingly cynical peers. Not everyone lets the delusion go, though, maybe five to ten percent of people hang on to this delusion all the way through college. They refine it a bit, they accept that you can't be a national and a professional basketball player, but besides that they hang on to the core feeling that they truly are one of God's favorites, and because of this they will achieve the sort of things that other normal people have to go to the movies to experience secondhand. If you can hold the delusion that you're special up until you're like 23 or 24, you'll probably never lose your grip on it. Some portion of these people who hold on to the delusion just go insane. They end up getting a little too high in their own fumes, but then others will others actually make it true. The delusion is simply what enables you to try long enough for the delusion to start looking less delusional.
