This is one of the most photographed viewpoints in the Dolomites, and if you want to visit this summer, there's exactly how you're going to get here. This is Cadini de Missirina, a mountain range located in the eastern Dolomites. Reaching this viewpoint requires a little more planning than most other hikes, as pre-booking is required to park at the most common starting point, Refugeo at Wanzo. You can indeed hike to this Refugeo, but it's about seven and a half kilometres up the steep incline, so driving this part and starting the hike care is certainly the most convenient, especially if it's your first time visiting. Pre-book parking typically opens between early to late May depending on the conditions and can be booked up to 30 days in advance by the Arunso.info website. Parking starts from 40 years for a cart and spots do sell out in peak months, so it's best to book this in good time to avoid missing out. If you're renting a cart, you'll need to update your registration on the booking by midnight the day before your arrival. The bar is located about a five-minute drive after you pass the infamous Lake Missirina and will open once reading your plate. From here, it's a better 50-minute drive up the mountain where you'll park and begin your hike. The hike is relatively short and typically takes about 45 minutes to reach the viewpoint, but is considered moderate in terms of difficulty due to some steep sections and lots of narrow and exposed steep drop-offs. You'll be heading south from refugee Arunso on Route 117 and it's a pretty clear trail to follow with one small section where you can choose to go left and around the lower left hand side of the ridge. This route is a lot more exposed or head straight over the top of the ridge in a similar direction. The hike is definitely not recommended for anyone uncomfortable with heights. Depending on the time that you visit, there may also be a way to actually reach the tip of the viewpoint as visitors often queue to take pictures up there. We visited in the late afternoon setting up around 5pm and there were only a few other groups on this trail, meaning we had to wait around 15 minutes for our turn. We are here, however, the very start of the season, so in peak months, starting pre-8am or post-3pm will be recommended. Generally then, you'd hope to miss the morning or lunchtime hikers and the sunset hikers that start a little later. With a viewpoint sitting at around 2,350 meters above sea level, weather can change quickly, so I just bring in layers and of course check the forecast before to make sure you're dressed appropriately. Hiking shoes and plenty of water are amassed. When you're done with the hike, make sure you reach the barriers back at the bottom of the mountain before your parking booking runs out, otherwise you'll have to pay the film out again. Now it's worth noting that this refusal is also a starting point for the infamous Trichime hike, so you may well want to hit both of these on the same day. This hike really is one of my favourites from our Dolomite's trip, with the views on a good weather day being some of the most spectacular I have ever seen. It's definitely not one to miss from your Dolomite summer, itinerary, so if you're heading there this summer, happy hiking!
