Big tech isn't shrinking its partner ecosystems, it’s quietly rebuilding them around a high-paying, high-influence profile. Layoffs are running around 895 people per day, but there is an industry inside the tech industry that is on fire right now. And I just wrote an entire article about it on my sub-stack. That sub-industry is called Partner Ecosystems, and Google invested over $750 million dollars, and Thropic and OpenAI over $150 million each. Add AWS and Microsoft, and we are close to over $1 billion invested. And while money is pouring into Partner Ecosystems from an investment standpoint, the roles themselves are changing from being very relationship driven to being more technical. New roles can expect to sit at the intersection of AI, finance, legal, and product strategy. Companies now need builders. They don't need managers. They don't need to hire people to be operators, which are what a lot of these roles used to be. I call this role a strategic infrastructure architect. And right now, if you are then 5% of partner leaders or people in partner roles, have that profile. People with that profile will own the commercial architecture. They will understand how AI agents interact with partner infrastructure. They are technically literate in the infrastructure running modern ecosystems. And they know how to design agents for speed instead of quarterly planning cycles. Today, to get a job in partner ecosystems, and there are many of them, you need to be able to do these things. Translate between technical and commercial. Design for outcomes, not activities. Be able to govern AI inside of partner motions. Build for scale, not comfort. And be able to personally close the gap between strategy and execution. This does require anybody even up to a VP level to be an individual contributor to get a job now. These jobs pay between 225 and 350 plus. I go check out my sub stack, figure out what you need, what your gaps could possibly be, go grab your certs, brush off your resume, and go get yourself one of these jobs.
