This picture was taken in 1952 of the shepherd tending his sheep in this sacred grove that has sat abandoned for 350 years in Italy. So this massive face statue has sat in this wooded valley bottom beneath this very large castle, castle or sceny, which is one of the largest castles in Italy. In this area called the Gardens of Amarzo, sometimes called the Park of Monsters because it has all these grotesque statue things. In the 1500s, this specific face was commissioned by Pierre, Francisco, or sceny to cope with the loss of his wife, and this sculpture is supposed to depict the Roman underworld god Orcas. But after Pierre or sceny's death, his descendants looked at his garden and decided it was just like the creation of a madman, and they had no interest in maintaining it. And they just thought it was really surreal and had a lot of cryptic statues, and so they abandoned it for nearly 350 years. And it's just crazy to think that there was such a cool place with so many cool creations that was just being swallowed by vegetation and was forgotten for so long just used for livestock grazing.
