I just came back from Japan and I honestly had the best time but there were some mistakes I made in terms of my planning that I have regrets about and I want to show this with you guys so you don't make the same mistakes for your trip. Number one, I did not really book any dinners or any food stuff ahead of time and I honestly really regretted this because there were some omakase stuff that I wanted to go to and I just couldn't get a reservation the day of or like that close to my trip. My second regret is that I took USD from here in cash and I tried to exchange it at the exchange big in 7/11 and that was some mistake on many accounts. Number one being that you should never take USD from here with you to another country because that is the worst possible rate you could get when you're trying to do an exchange for it. It's better to just get an ATM card that doesn't have any ATM fees like the Charles Schwab or like I think I have like the fidelity card and then just pull money out directly from that card because that will give you the best exchange rate. I also didn't even need the cash like honestly like card is pretty much fine mostly everywhere in Tokyo. It is nice to have a little bit of cash but you don't really need it. My third regret is that I booked Shibuya Sky for 7.40 pm thinking that I could go in a little bit early and that way I could still get like the sunset and then get the nighttime view. They do not let you go in that early so I was not able to get the sunset view because by 7.40 it already become dark. So make sure if you really want the sunset view you are like on that website the minute those tickets release. My other regret is that I bought some stuff at Don Quixote outside of skincare and that was a huge mistake because pretty much only the skincare is a good deal there. Everything else is kind of jacked up in terms of the prices. So I bought chopsticks there for like $10 and I bought those same chopsticks at Kappa Bashi Street by Sonsouji Temple for $4. So if you go only buy like the skincare the haircare of that type of stuff that is actually a good deal. I went and compared those prices with the Japanese pharmacy prices and they were better priced. My regret is not buying enough matcha. It sounds silly but like I only bought two tins of matcha for myself and you need a lot of matcha to make matcha so I'm probably going to run out of that pretty quickly. My other regret is booking nighttime activities early into the trip. I booked like a pub crawl for the first night that I was going to be there because I thought it would be cool to like meet people and then like be able to hang out with them through the rest of the trip but that first night I was so jet lag and so tired that it did not work out good for me. Also kind of regret not checking out any Japanese designers. I only went to like Uniqlo and some other stores that were I just kind of saw on the street when I was walking but I wish I would have done more research into like Japanese designers and gone to more Japanese designers and been able to kind of look at their style a little bit more, the local style and just been able to shop some of that stuff a bit more. Also I regret not booking both team labs, Borderless and team lab planets ahead of time. What I went to Borderless I loved it so much that I wanted to go to team planets as well and honestly I should have just booked both ahead of time. I was able to book planets last minute but I had to pay a little bit more because I did book it last minute if I had booked it ahead of time would have been a little bit cheaper.
