I feel like we've all done this. You get in some argument and then hours after, your mind just replays it. You rehearse what you should have said and then you win the fight in your head and then this keeps looping in your mind over and over. And this happens because our ego, our loseery identity made up of thoughts, feelings, and perceptions, needs to feel right. It survives by protecting itself image. So when someone or something challenges you, the ego feels the need to repair the image that just took a massive hit. So we replay arguments. But no matter how many times you win the argument in your head, you're never actually going to feel better because the real problem is that your ego felt threatened and replaying the scene 100 times is not going to fix that and you'll just keep looping chasing a feeling of relief that just won't come by replaying the arguments. But what does help is realizing that self-image, what got hurt, isn't the real you, it's the ego, the illusory identity, the constructed identity, the real you is awareness, conscious itself, and awareness can't be insulted, awareness can't lose a fight. So what helps us to catch yourself the next time you find yourself replaying arguments and realize it's just the ego defending an image. And that was never actually you, so you can just let it go. You're the awareness that everything's appearing in. You're not the ego.
