Today marks the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Versailles, one of the greatest fashion moments ever. But on as a fundraiser for restoration for the Palace of Versailles, tire premise was simple. A pitted French designers against American designers put on a show. There's a real society moment. Celebrity, aristocracy, princess grace of Monaco included, tending the event, and sort of unsurprisingly, people expected that France and European couture designers would come out on top. It didn't. That was so beautifully showcased in the Netflix series, Holstich. If you haven't seen, you have to see Americans stall everyone's hearts. I mean, they had Liza Manelli, you were going to win. Oh, the French had beautiful moments. Everything created from every designer and every side was incredible. The French stuck to the classics. The Americans chose fun. The American representative that succeeded so beautifully was, of course, Holstich. And Klein, Oscar de la Renter, Bill Blas and Stephen Burrows. French had Yves Salahon, Hubert de Givenchy, yeah, can't done. Mark Bowen for Dior, Emmanuel Angaro. While it was just a very elaborate fundraiser, part of the reason that the Palace of Versailles in great condition today, it was also one of the major moments American fashion on the European map.
