No one had ever seen an egg this lucky. It fell from a bird's nest, slid down a branch and was caught by a bed of flowers. It rolled onto a road where a passing truck saved it from plunging off a cliff. Then it glided along the tire tracks until just before being crushed, it slipped into a crack and a loose wooden plank the truck had lifted. Moments before falling into the water, a floating log caught it. As it neared a waterfall, the egg was tossed safely onto the shore. It rolled across the ground, dropped into a small hole, and finally came to rest beneath a sleeping marmot. Startled awake, the marmot stared at the egg in disbelief. He quickly searched through his books and, after confirming he had definitely not laid an egg, let out a huge sigh of relief. Just then, the egg cracked open. The marmot saw an adorable baby bird and decided to adopt it, determined to give it a happy life. Every day they went outside to play together. The little eagle grew bigger and bigger. By the time winter arrived, it had become far too large for the tiny marmot to carry. Wanting to teach it how to fly, the marmot searched through his books for advice. Instead, he made a terrifying discovery. The bird he had adopted was an eagle, and marmots were one of an eagle's favorite meals. The frightened marmot slammed the book shut and slowly backed away. But there was a strange sparkle in the young eagle's eyes. Panicking, he tossed over the eagle's favorite food. Instead, the eagle squeezed ketchup onto the marmot's paw and tried to take a bite. Fortunately, the marmot escaped at the last second. The young eagle then pretended to be tired and went to bed. The marmot refused to let his guard down. He brewed several cups of coffee, drank them one after another, and started reading to stay awake. But the young eagle unexpectedly began singing a lullaby. Then it secretly swapped the marmot's book with a bedtime story. After bringing him some fresh bread, it finally convinced the exhausted marmot to lie down. Unable to fight off sleep any longer, the marmot drifted off. The eagle gently covered him with the bread, preparing to eat him. But at that very moment, memories of the loving marmot who had raised him came rushing back, thinking about all the happy days they had shared brought tears to his eyes. He carefully tucked the marmot into bed, making sure he slept peacefully. A shamed of what he had almost done, the young eagle lowered his head in regret. Just then, a book fell from the table. Curious, the eagle looked inside and became excited. He immediately woke the marmot who was still trembling with fear. The eagle hurriedly explained, "There's a species of eagle with red spots beneath its wings, and they don't eat marmots." As he spoke, he lifted his wing to reveal the bright red markings. But the misunderstanding finally cleared up, the two returned to the happy life they had always shared.
