It's a non-negotiable business activity that your massive success depends on. It has to be protected. Compare that to applying learned skills to work you don't care about, for someone else's bottom line, where your whole value is measured in productivity. There's no room for creative expression there. It's not on the shareholder list of priorities. But when you build it your way, you GET to be a modern inventor. A philosopher. A polymath. One of my fellow high-achieving multi-passionates feel like I'm not meant for this era of corporate greed. This hellscape of bureaucracy and bullshits. I don't want to sit in front of a computer all day, caught up in an endless blur of back-to-back meetings that could have been an email, because maybe you're a modern inventor. Maybe you're meant to build things that didn't exist before. And so you need plenty of time to tinker, to experiment, fuel your creativity, pressure, test your big ideas, to break things, and try again. Or maybe you're a modern-day philosopher. And you need plenty of time for deep focus, for intellectual wandering, to write, or get lost in transformative conversation, to sit with your existential musings, to challenge the status quo, poke holes in things with your curiosity, to mull over the human experience and shape a better future. And maybe you're someone who doesn't just want to do one thing. Maybe you're a modern-day polymath. You want to cast a white net, get a range of experience under your belt, because you're a lifelong learner, and you're never done growing. But you also want depth of master, and you want to weave all of your range and depth together to create things that are uniquely yours.
