Sometimes the loneliness gets so bad that I start craving basic human attention like it's food. Like something my body actually needs to survive. And that's the part that makes me feel disgusted with myself. Because I can see how it looks from the outside. Someone who's a little too excited when people talk to them. Someone who replies too fast, laughs too hard, tries too much. Just because for a second, it feels like maybe I'm not invisible anymore. And the truth is, I hate that version of me. I hate how needy it makes me feel. Like, I'm standing there quietly begging for something. Everyone else seems to get without even trying. And the worst part is, people can sense it. They always do. They notice the hunger for connection. The way I hold on to conversations a little longer than I should. The way I try to keep people around because I'm scared of going back to that silence again. And that's usually the moment they start pulling away. Because nobody likes feeling like there's someone else's emotional backup. Nobody wants to be responsible for filling that empty space inside you. And I understand that, which almost makes it worse. Because now, I'm aware of how pathetic it looks. But that doesn't magically make the feeling disappear. The loneliness is still there. The need for someone to just sit with me. Talk to me. Treat me like I exist. It's still there. And sometimes, I sit with that thought. Wondering if the real reason I struggle making friendships isn't that I'm a bad person. It's just that people can feel how badly I need them. And nothing scares people away faster than someone who actually needs them to stay.
