Does David Raya look different here to you? Here's why his face has changed so much. David Raya is a Spanish professional footballer who currently plays as a goalkeeper for Arsenal in the Premier League. Born in Barcelona in 1995, Raya moved to England at the age of 16 to join Blackburn Rovers' youth academy. While playing for Blackburn Rovers, Raya suffered a severe facial injury during a match against West Brom. He collided with striker Jay Rodriguez resulting in a horrific nose injury. Blackburn manager Tony Mobray described the injury as so gruesome that his players were physically sickened by it. Raya was rushed to the hospital where it was revealed that the bone at the top of his nose was almost pushed into his skull. He later underwent nose reconstruction surgery but chose to delay it until the season's end. Raya had to wear a protective mask for two weeks but resumed playing soon after. He reflected that the injury didn't affect his playing style and went on to have a successful career, moving to Brentford and later joining Arsenal and becoming their first choice goalkeeper.
