Well, would you look at that? Donald Trump and his Justice Department just got caught using AI in their legal filings and citing a thick AI-generated case in a filing against an ICE detainee. A Trump-appointed judge actually called it out. The judge wrote, quote, "the cited case Taylor Vee Hot" is not located at the identified page of the federal appendix. In its research, the court was unable to identify a case with the caption "Taylor Vee Hot" or any federal case containing the quoted language. Thus, it seems this citation was likely produced by AI. The judge also said that if you're using AI, you got to check your work and adding, although the court will not presently impose sanctions for this conduct, it goes without saying that the government must ensure its future filings with this court do not include non-existing case law. So that's right, the Trump administration is using AI and fake court cases to go against an ICE detainee. Just total incompetence top down in the Trump administration.
