Thoran Mamdani has officially conceded that the city of New York does not have the legal authority to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu on his upcoming trip to the city in September. And this comes after days of speculation about whether or not the mayor would arrest the genocidal war criminal, whether or not New York City had the authority to even do so. This even follows replies from the Prime Minister's office, calling the ICC a kangaroo court saying it has no jurisdiction over the Americans or the Israelis as neither are signatories to the Rome statue. Oh, let's also not forget that this follow statements from Israel's UN Ambassador demanding that Mamdani be arrested. And the reporting on this is really interesting because a lot of outlets are alleging that Mamdani walked back his campaign promises, he is refusing to execute an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu. But the problem is that while Mamdani acknowledges that he does not have the authority to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu, he highlights the fact that the federal government does. He's calling on the federal government to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu while also simultaneously saying he is in fact a war criminal and is not welcome in New York City, which is absolutely more than most are doing. And despite the lack of authority to arrest, the city still could do more to make his visit as uncomfortable as possible by returning the power of protest to the people. Let New Yorkers take to the street to demand accountability and don't use the NYPD to protect him from public outrage. And not just Netanyahu, but any Israeli enterprise that supports genocide, we should be protesting Israeli businesses, Israeli politicians beyond Netanyahu because the problem didn't begin and it doesn't end with him. Anyway, here's Mamdani's statement about Benjamin Netanyahu calling him a war criminal and pointing out his crimes against humanity. And hopefully, this is indicative of the fact that he will allow public protest to take place to make the Prime Minister's visit to New York City as uncomfortable as possible. Let him know that he truly is not welcome in New York City. Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal. The architect of the horrific genocide against the Palestinian people is responsible for killing up more than 73,000 people. For the meaning of tens of thousands of children as those who survive under the magnification without anesthesia, for the targeting of neonatal hospitals and drug care centers denying new ones even the chance to live. For the countless people he starved as he blocked food and humanitarian aid from Richmond, for the gunning down of hundreds of eight workers and journalists. In just last month, he went and confirmed that Palestinian children continue to be deliberately targeted and killed by Israeli armed forces for the eight months after the so-called ceasefire. The list goes on and on, always be, as Americans pay for the bombs that do kill. There is a reason the international criminal court should be warned for his arrest. As human beings we have spent generations building a shared understanding that they are crimes so grave they offend all of you. Anyone with their eyes, their hearts, with their conscience should recognize the devastation he has brought and understand that he belongs before the courts of law. As I've said, I agree with the ICC, Benjamin Netanyahu should be arrested and tried for his crimes, as I do for anyone else charged by the ICC. My administration has refuted every avenue available under applicable law to determine whether New York City could execute the international criminal court's arrest warrant if Benjamin Netanyahu can't hear. Is clear that we do not have the impending authority to enforce this warrant, the federal government, however, does, and I call on them to join the ICC and execute this warrant. I want to be equally clear, Benjamin Netanyahu is not welcome in New York City, or is any other work criminal at large.
