Cyberpunk 2077 has some of the coolest lore because it's basically what if world history is just a little bit different The first major difference between cyberpunk's timeline and our own timeline takes place during the Cold War The FBI, the CIA, the NSA and the DEA all formed a secret shadow government and they overthrew the actual government through like blackmail and mass surveillance Europe noticed that the United States was overstepping in their foreign policy even for like American standards and they decided to form their own counter government Most of the world joined forces and kind of shutting America out into the US dollar plummeted and the euro dollar skyrocketed which is why that's the currency in cyberpunk 2077 So as the failed state America is trying to cling onto the power over its people and over the world and they just start a shit ton of wars And a lot of the corporations that you see in cyberpunk 2077 got their big break because they saw the United States were getting into all these wars And so they manufactured weapons as well as cybernetic enhancements for soldiers which later became commonplace among the populace As you might expect starting a bunch of wars isn't a great long-term strategy so eventually the United States faced pretty much total collapse and came back rebranded as the new United States of America And during that time of the government was really struggling was the corporation stepped in to provide for the public not out of the goodness of their hearts but out of the fondness of their wallets And the facts speak for themselves America's not doing super great in cyberpunk 2077 They have 100 million population as opposed to what the 350 that we have right now and the literacy rate is barely over half It's always fun to see like the world building that goes into games like this So kudos to the people who made the cyberpunk tabletop game and kudos to CD project red for expanding on that with cyberpunk 2077
