This is exactly why people call beavers nature's engineer because they pretty much can change the whole landscape of these rivers and basically turn a river into somewhat of a pond because they slow down the fast-moving river so much. Basically becomes water that is just sitting still and you can see the water is approaching that dam and once it gets to the dam it slows down so much it's basically just trickling over the dam and that's where the water kind of starts backing up because there's plenty of water coming to the dam but once it gets to it it backs up so much that it basically just creates a whole new ecosystem in that area for ducks and frogs and everything that lives in that area that benefits off of there being like puddled water will benefit from this and what's kind of interesting is as long as the beaver is working on the dam it will be effective but if a beaver kind of abandons this area and goes somewhere else over time that river will basically carve its way through that dam and sometimes break it loose completely.
