I just saw this tweet. I wonder how much of Nolan's homography is him trying to understand his brother and why he did what he did. And I was like what a Christopher Nolan's brother do. And never in a million years would I have guessed the answer would be international hitman. When I first went to look this up, I got a little confused for a second because Chris's younger brother Jonathan is also a well-known filmmaker who co-created Westworld on HBO and co-wrote the prestige, momentum, the Dark Knight rises, and interstellar. But that's my fault for being distracted by a blue name on Wikipedia because that tweet is about their older brother Matthew. Now Matthew is not in the film industry and this is quite literally the only photo of him on the internet. But he's notable because in 2009 he was arrested by the FBI and accused of being a hitman. The Costa Rican government charged him with unaliving a man and tried to have him extradited from the United States. Now the occupation hitman is alleged because they didn't have enough evidence to convict him. But they did have overwhelming evidence that he operated under the name Matthew McCall Oppenheimer. People obviously had a field day analyzing that when Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer came out, but it sounds like Matthew chose that to try to link himself to a rich South African diamond family as opposed to the scientist. But still a crazy coincidence. While he was being held in federal prison in Chicago, Matthew attempted to escape using a 31-foot long rope made out of bed sheets, but he was caught and sentenced to 14 months in jail for it. But after he served that time, he was released and we don't know anything about him. We don't know where he is, we don't know what he's been up to. Neither Cristina or Jonathan have ever publicly spoken about Matthew, but he absolutely makes you look at their filmography in a whole new light.
