[sounds of gasping] In the future, humanity can only walk barefoot, and the woman accidentally brushes against a wire. [sounds of gasping] "Friend." She grabs her kids and runs for their lives, not realizing someone already has them in the sights of a rifle. And as if that wasn't bad enough, the boy steps straight into a bear trap. The searing pain ripping a scream right out of him, and his mother quickly clamps a hand over his mouth, begging him not to make a sound. She forces the trap open and pulls him into her arms, holding him tight to calm him down. But the real danger is just the beginning. A creature is closing in on them, yet instead of running, the girl turns on a radio and removes her hearing aid. The low-frequency feedback instantly amplifies several times over, and the monster's hypersensitive hearing turns the sound into pure agony. That's when the woman raises her shotgun and takes aim at the creature. [sounds of gasping] But more roars echo in the distance, and the three of them rush into an abandoned factory. When suddenly a mysterious man grabs the mother and covers her mouth, signaling her to stay quiet because there's another creature right behind them, and they follow him in a desperate sprint while the monster stays right on their heels. Even though he's barefoot, the faint sound of his footsteps still gives them away, and with the creature closing in fast, the man dives into a massive steel pipe. The girl and her mother jumping in after him, leading them into a hidden shelter. The first thing he tells them is that they need to leave as soon as possible. Food and water are running dangerously low, and there's no way they can survive here long-term, but the moment the woman hears his voice, she calls him by name. [sounds of gasping] It turns out they used to be neighbors, and after seeing the baby hidden inside a wooden crate, the man reluctantly agrees to let them stay for now. And just then, the boy hears a song playing over the radio, which means there are other survivors out there sending a signal. The man tells them the song has been looping for four months, but the sister still believes it's a sign from other survivors, and after doing the math, she figures out the broadcast is coming from an island. Only a day's journey away, and she insists they can go there and find help, but her little brother is terrified something will happen to her, and he knows their mom would never agree. No one expects that the very next morning, when her brother wakes up, she's already gone, leaving behind nothing but a notice she sets out alone to find the island. And while scavenging for supplies on an abandoned train car, she accidentally makes a noise. [music]
