Did you know that the opposite of manipulation isn't honesty? It's authenticity. Manipulation often happens when you're afraid that who you really are isn't going to be enough. So you perform, you people please, you guilt trip, and you control because you're afraid of losing the outcome. Real authenticity is something entirely different. It says, "This is who I am. These are my intentions and you're free to choose." Authentic people don't need to convince other people of their value and they don't need to pressure them either. They also don't need to perform because they understand something manipulative people don't. What is meant for you does not require you to be someone that you're not. Real influence will never remove another person's freedom. It simply gives them enough truth that they can choose for themselves. The most powerful people in the room are rarely the ones that are the most manipulative. They're the most authentic because they trust that what's aligned with them will recognize them. So stop trying to control who stays and start becoming someone worth finding. The need to manipulate comes from a fear of not being chosen. Real authenticity says, "If I have to pretend to keep it, it was never mine to begin with."
