If you want to build a trillion dollar company…do this.

If you want to build the next trillion dollar business, don't build a software company. Build a software company that is masquerading as a services firm. I scale my first startup to 20 million in revenue, I'm now a venture capitalist, and over the last year, the buzz has almost entirely shifted from vertical sass to AI native services, or aims for short. And I personally am super bullish on this trend. So what exactly is aims and why is it so popular? Basically, it's a shift where instead of selling the software to do the work, you sell the outcomes directly. So for example, in the old world, you might build a software like QuickBooks and sell it to a company for maybe $10,000 a year. And then they pay an accountant 120k to sit alongside your software and actually do the work to close the books. The belief is that future companies will just sell the ability to close the books directly and offer it at a much cheaper rate, but potentially also much faster and better. So why exactly is this so lucrative? There's two reasons. One, the market is so much bigger for services than for software. For every $1 bet on software, $6 or spent on services. If you can build a flywheel, this will enable you to quickly scale into a much larger company, much faster. Second, it's much more defensible. If you sell a tool, you're racing the model. Unless you have a unique mode, every new model release puts you at risk. If you are selling the service directly, every model release actually makes you better. You have structural advantages that will make it so you can leverage AI much better and faster than incumbent businesses who maybe aren't super sophisticated with AI or where they'll struggle with an innovator's dilemma issue if they use AI and cannibalize their own business. Last year, there was skepticism around if these businesses could actually grow really fast. And in 2026, we've seen that to be true across multiple verticals. For example, Crosby in the legal space sells legal contracting and has been able to deliver a service that is faster and better and cheaper than the alternative. And Dera just raised a large series A selling socks to compliance testing at about 70% of the cost of traditional incumbents. Juicebox and Jack and Jill have offered top of services recruiting services much faster, cheaper and better than humans were able to deliver on before. And I personally believe there's a lot more aims winners to come. My name is Shuddy. I'm a two-time founder from venture capitalist. I post tips on how to build great companies. If you're building an anger native service or if thoughts on this, leave a comment below. Would love to hear your thoughts. Please follow for more. Thank you.
