On July 26, The Wall Street Journal reported that Nvidia is in talks to guarantee roughly $250 billion of financing so OpenAI can lease a data-center campus being developed by SoftBank's SB Energy on the site of a former uranium-enrichment plant in Piketon, southern Ohio. A separate chip-financing package of up to $350 billion is reportedly under discussion. With the hardware inside, the total cost could pass half a trillion dollars. The campus's planned capacity is ten billion watts. That is roughly ten typical nuclear reactors. It is more than the average round-the-clock draw of all Greater Paris: 7.6 gigawatts, per grid operator RTE. It is a tenth of France at its all-time peak. Or ten billion phones playing this reel at once, more phones than exist on Earth. None of it is signed. These are talks, reported by one newspaper. Nvidia, OpenAI and the U.S. Commerce Department did not respond to requests for comment. If the talks collapse, the campus remains a plan. The first phase, 800 megawatts, is targeted for 2028. Every rectangle in this film sits on one grid where area equals watts: your phone is one cell, the campus is ten billion of them. The camera never cuts. It only pulls back. Right now your phone is drawing about one watt to play this, a light bulb, eight watts, a laptop, 30. The average European home, 400 watts around the clock, a kettle, 2000, the fastest car charger on earth, one million watts, one offshore wind turbine, 15 million. One nuclear reactor, one billion watts. All of greater Paris averaged around the clock, seven and a half billion. This week, the Wall Street Journal reported that Nvidia is in talks to guarantee $250 billion. So open AI can lease one data center campus on the site of an old Uranium plant in southern Ohio. Its planned capacity, 10 billion watts, that is 10 nuclear reactors, more than all of greater Paris, a 10th of France at its all-time peak, or every phone on earth, watching this at once. With the chips inside, the total could pass half a trillion dollars. Nothing is signed. These are talks reported by one newspaper. In video, open AI and the US government aren't commenting. The whole thing could still fall apart. For now, it is 10 billion watts on paper. The first 800 million arrive in 2028, and that little square on your screen, that is your phone again, one watt, still playing this. [BLANK_AUDIO]
