If I were writing a novel, which I am, these are four questions I would ask my beta readers, part two. Number one is, where did you stop reading the first time you cracked open the manuscript? With this, I would probably ask them to keep track of every time they close to the book, because the point is, you want them to want more, but they can't do that if it's dragging. Next is to ask what they like and/or dislike about the narrator or the main character. The reader is going to be in their head for 200-300+ pages, it needs to be an enjoyable place to be. Or at least a relatable one. What did you find most interesting about my main character's arc? This is going to help you determine where you can expand more, and where you can pull back, as well as what is interesting and what isn't. Which setting was clearest to you? You can study the prose that you used in that section and apply it to other setting descriptions. You want your book to be a place that people can disappear into and see clearly in their minds eye, but you don't want to get too lost and drawn out long descriptions. a lot more questions like this I can suggest so follow along for more and comment if you'd like a part three.
