The Event That Gave Us The MOON! . . . . #moon #History #space #Science

4.5 billion years ago our earth looked nothing like it does today. There were no oceans, no continents, and no life. The young earth was a hot molten world surrounded by rocks and debris left over from the formation of the solar system. But somewhere in space another world was approaching. A planetary body about the size of Mars, known as the Thayer, was slowly moving toward Earth. Then, in a moment that would change our planet forever, Thayer slammed into the younger, the incredible speed, the impact was unimaginably powerful. Vast amounts of rock were blasted into space, forming a giant ring of glowing debris around Earth. But the story didn't end there. Over time, gravity pulled that debris together. Small fragments collided, merged, and eventually formed a single, massive object orbiting Earth. That object became the moon. At least, that's what the leading scientific theory suggests. Scientists support this idea because moon rocks have a chemical composition remarkably similar to Earth's outer layers. Computer simulations also show that a collision like this could create a moon very much like our own.
