The only way to stay whole is to give up parts of yourself. The whole is prior to the part, because without the whole, the part can even be a part of the whole. And if a man has knowledge of what is necessary, then he would gladly cooperate in his own dismemberment, death and mutilation. Sometimes it is necessary to cut off parts of yourself. Because these parts are sick and to effectively cut off the sick parts, you'll also have to give up some healthy tissue. When amputating a gangrenous appendage, it is necessary to cut through healthy tissue. You can't get sentimental about your particulars. Sometimes a cut on the foot requires a loss of everything below the need. You must lose the part to save the whole. That's why Jesus says, you know, if your eye causes you to send to pluck it out, or if your arm causes you to transgress, that you should chop it off. The eye in the hand are the human things that grab and take the world, but what profit is it to gain the world and to lose your soul? It is better to be blind and limitless than to lose your soul. And of course, that's the extreme. The toe becomes the leg, becomes the torso. Your body is one big limb to your soul. And so, one should be willing to lose their life to save their soul. And that's how you end up with the paradox. Whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever gives it up will keep it forever. In illness, the whole only survives through loss of the particular. And as death is the ultimate illness of total life, the only way to save your whole is just to willingly be able to give it up.
