But life is a zero-sum game of effort, and if you do what everyone else does, you will have what everyone else has. The successful understand something the comfortable kind that success is not a secret hidden behind a door. It's a price tag, hanging on the things most people are simply too soft to pay for. It's the work that isn't fun, the repetition that isn't flashy, and the decisions that look like too much to people who are satisfied with enough. But the truth is cold, to have what most people will never have. You must be willing to endure what most people will never endure. You can join the crowd and complain about the view, or you can leave the crowd, do the work they swear isn't worth it. And earn a life they'll one day swear was just luck. Because average is not a mystery, average is what happens when you make the same convenient choices as everyone else. And then act shocked when you get the same life.
