Let's look at Luke chapter 1 from verse 1 to 4. It says many have undertaken to drop an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us. Just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. Given the motivation that he would have as a church father in these texts, the writers never identified themselves in any way formally, or even named themselves. The names we call them now, the names we use, where the names first used by this church father. And this is why Christians need to read and learn from sources outside the church.
