I felt the tweezers nearly touching my brain, and even the doctor clenched his jaw trying not to gag. But suddenly, every sound crashed back at once. I heard a metal tray rattling, mom gagging behind me, and my own breathing. I turned my head and froze because I'd never seen something so grim. A pile of dead cockroaches were lying on a metal tray. The doctor was green in his face. These were rotting in your ear for days. We just took them out. That's why everyone was freaking out. I doubled over and started getting sick myself.
