The man in the image is Aaron Joel Mitchell at the Burning Man Festival in 2017. Moments later, he broke through a human chain of security officers and sprinted into the event's burning effigy. Authorities later ruled the incident a suicide. Number two, moments after this photo was taken, Joe Erity would be led to the gas chamber. The image shows him handing his toy train to another inmate. Often referred to as the happiest prisoner on death row. Erity had an IQ of 46 and spent much of his time playing with the train. Despite maintaining his innocence, he was executed in 1939. Decades later, evidence surrounding the case led many to believe he had been wrongfully convicted. Number three, this rare photograph captured the moment thousands realized they had to run. As one of the towers collapsed during the September 11th attacks, debris and dust surged through the streets below, thousands scrambled to escape. In the years that followed, many first responders, survivors and nearby residents developed serious illnesses linked to toxic dust exposure.
