Florida's Department of Education rejected over 40% of math books, intended fees and schools. Let's take a look at some of the pages that got these books rejected. This discussion of racism was considered to be an example of critical race theory forbidden topic in schools. It's the theory that racism is not merely the product of prejudice, but is embedded in American society and its legal system. This was the reviewers comment, and it says that the question contained emphasis that racism was embedded in American society, dependent on age. Books were rejected for all sorts of other reasons too, including other controversial topics, or alignment with the curriculum, or just being hard to read. 6000 pages of reviewer comments were released earlier this year, and I'll just say it provides interesting insight into the surprisingly charged process of selecting math books for the classroom.
