In 1755 a manual camp stated in his General Natural History and Theory of the Heavens that he thought a very bright star, possibly serious, was at the centre of our Milky Way galaxy. In 1918, Harlow Shapley stated that the halo of globular clusters surrounding the Milky Way seemed to be centred on stars in the constellation of Sagittarius, but there was too much dust and gas in the way to sea. In 1954, a team of radio astronomers in Sydney, Australia detected extremely powerful radio emissions coming from a point source near the centre of the galaxy. They named it Sagittarius A, and in 2022, we got the first photos of Sagittarius A star, the supermassive black hole at the centre of our Milky Way.
