I pushed my adopted 8 year old son Jimmy into the pool and started holding him under, screaming at him to stay down because it would keep him safe. Then I looked up and saw his bio dad Richard twice the size of me, already storming through our gate, screaming for his son. Jimmy still had the scar across his arm from him, and he'd told me he'd rather die than go back to Richard. Jimmy heard his voice and immediately froze in fear, dropping to the bottom in the crocodile crouch he'd been doing all summer. Being autistic, crocodiles were his special interest, so he could stay under water like them for 4 minutes. I stood up and told the man, "You can't come within 100 yards of Jimmy, but Richard pushed me out of the way. I don't care. Where is that stupid kid?" He started tearing through my garden, pulling the shed door and flipping the barbecue looking for Jimmy. Under the water Jimmy was rubbing his scar, his fear tick, and when I looked closer, my heart sank. He was going purple, being afraid had increased his heart rate so his air was running thin, and he couldn't stay still like a crocodile and had started splashing. "What was that?" Richard turned towards the pool, his eyes read, "Is that my son?" He ran forward, "I tried to stop him, but he shoved me to the grass. My head hit the rake, almost knocking me out. He got down on his knees at the edge, and through my blurry vision, I saw Jimmy rattling like he barely had air left." Richard started reaching in, "Jimmy, come out or you're dead when I get you!" He grabbed Jimmy's shoulder, and I didn't have the consciousness to get up, but that's when Jimmy leapt out of the water. He bit Richard's arm like a crocodile, clamping his teeth as hard as he could, and did the crocodile roll he'd been practicing all summer. Richard screamed in pain as Jimmy dragged him in head first. Jimmy got up out of the water, breathing hard. "I was a crocodile dad, he helped me up." Richard was screaming, "Help!" in the water as it turned red around him. His eyes fading from the loss of blood. Jimmy pointed at the new scar on Richard's arm. Now you have one too.
