This past weekend I attended the Beloved Community Awards at The Martin Luther King Jr. Center in Atlanta, and I can still feel it. Seeing Viola Davis receive the Coretta Scott King Soul of the Nation Award, honored for her art, courage, and commitment to truth and justice, was one of those moments that literally gave me chills. Watching her speak about her journey and what it means to heal a nation reminded me why we show up, listen, and keep the work going. 🖤✨

I was told that the definition of hell is on your last day on Earth. The person who became means the person that you could be. I say that about our nation, and say that about myself. That there is no becoming and you can face the death and the darkness of your soul. There is going to be coming without human and without a radical acceptance of one's truth. I know that myself, growing up in a poverty loop, chocolate, or baked lips, and wine donkeys and balls, or iron, or ten to six to five. I didn't see whole, I didn't see a dreamer. I just wanted to be something. I wanted success because I thought it was significance. And no one who can describe the journey of going from a little chocolate girl searching for hope, searching for a dollar. And the girl living in a transcendent life. That is a beautiful story. We have only a tall umbrella of a hero's path. And there we have thought we would find in a combination we shall find God. And there we have thought that we could slay the other who will slay ourselves. And we really have thought to journey upwards. We shall come to the center of our own existence. And where we are going to be alone, we shall come to be with all the world. There is no soul of a nation without a soul of its people. There is no one as beautiful as not just who is represented in the green thing and a wide people in this room, but by all those who went a little longer in here. We have even thought together or not at all, and no nation can be great until we heal. Ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, just end the day. We are going to give you a warm hug, and I am just proud to be a part of this story, and I'm proud to be with anyone who has an ambition, as people in this set. Thank you.
