Why don't snow leopards attack humans? And why are they always biting their own tails? It's because snow leopards are naturally shy and timid. When they see humans, their first instinct isn't to fight. It's to run and hide. They'll only strike back if they feel truly threatened. Snow leopards live in the cold mountains of the Tibetan Plateau. Their long, thick tails act like built-in scarves. Holding the tail in their mouth helps cover their nose and mouth to stay warm. When walking, their extra long tails can get in the way. So instead of dragging it behind, they just carry it in their mouths. Baby snow leopards are incredibly cute. And their paws even sound a bit like baby chicks. Since their moms are too big to cuddle with, the cubs often grow up clinging to their mother's tail. When they're nervous, biting their own tail gives them a sense of comfort. Like, their mom is still nearby. And when leaping or running, that tail helps them stay balanced, especially on steep cliffs and rocky terrain. As oversized cats, snow leopards share a lot in common with house cats. They love cardboard boxes and enjoy sneaking around corners to watch you when you're not looking.
