Učit, učitza, izučet, zanimatza. All of them mean to study, but how are they different? Učit means to learn and to teach. I know weird, they're like opposite concepts. For example, "ja učuruski" can mean both "I learned Russian" and "I teach Russian". Hence the word učitil, teacher. I'd say if you say "ja učuruski" then most of the time it will mean "I learned Russian". But učit in the meaning of "teach" is used a lot with verbs. For example, "ja uču" - "doč" - "chita" - "I teach my daughter to read". Okay, the next one is "učitza", which is the reflexive form of "učit". And "učitza" basically just means to go to school or to be a student or to study somewhere. For example, "ja učus" - "v university eti" - "I study at a university" or simply "I go to university" or "I go to college". A common question to ask someone is "de učušse ili roboteš" - "do you go to school or do you work?" All right, and then we have "izučat", which also means to study, but this one always must be followed by an object. So you can never just say "ja izučaju", there must be something following it. For example, "ja izučaju" - "historu" - "I study history". So "izučat" is kind of similar to "učit" to learn, but just like in English, you know, "učit" is more like to learn. Whereas "izučat" is more like to study, so it's kind of deeper or more serious. For example, you can use it with a major, like "štote izučaju" - "v university eti" - "what do you study at the university?" And the common mistake students make with the verb "izučat" is they'll just say "ja izučaju", like "I'm studying". But again, you can't do it because "izučat" must always be followed by an object. So how do you say if you're just studying, like, you know, doing homework? And for that, we use the verb "zanimaca". So "zanimaca" is to study without any object. For example, if you want to say "I'm studying", you would just say "ja zanimajuš". For example, "Čon" - "horoš je studiant" - "on mnoga zanimajuca". "Čon" is a good student. He studies a lot.
