Let's use the verb "четать" to read in all Russian tenses, and for some of them will need its perfective form which is "прочетать". Remember that all Russian verbs come in two forms, imperfective and perfective, and you must know both. For example, "четать" - "прочетать". Present tense. "I read" - "я-четаю". I am reading right now. Also, "я-четаю". Past tense. And here's where it gets a little tricky. I read something as a process, not necessarily from beginning to end. For example, yesterday I read, would be "я-четал". I was reading something at a given moment in the past, also would be "я-четал". Now I read something entirely from beginning to end, would be "я-прочетал". Future. I will read as a process, or I'll be reading, not necessarily in its entirety. "Я буду читать". And if you want to say I'll read something entirely, "я-прочетаю".
